What is Prom 8?

A high quality educational intervention that inspires pupils beyond their everyday experiences. Prom 8 considers the society in which it operates and seeks to benefit the wider community.

Mission

To support underachieving pupils make progress and remain in school

Method

Inspiring pupils through hero recognition

Reasons why?

1

More than 40 pupils are permanently excluded from school daily

- Department for Education (2019)

2

78% of permanent exclusions were issued to children who had SEN, were classified as in need or were eligible for free school meals.

11% of permanent exclusions were to children with all three characteristics

- Edward Timpson (CBE)

3

As a result we don’t know what education, if any, thousands of children are receiving

- Anne Longfield, Children's  Commissioner for England

“Everything schools do should be a force for improvement.”

— Ofsted (2019)

“Key underachieving groups feel the curriculum lacks relevance to their lives”

— Demie and Lewis (2014)

Exclusion is a marker for increased risk of being a victim and perpetrator of crime.

I am clear that engagement with and success in education is a protective factor for children.

- Rt Hon Damian Hinds MP (Former Secretary of State for Education)

“All too often the moment of school exclusion is the tipping point that leads to young people picking up knives”

- Sarah Jones MP (Founder and Chair, APPG on Knife Crime)

“Prom 8 is not just for the brightest students, but all students who are working tirelessly to close the gap. The idea is for students to be fully engaged with the process. What you put in, you get out!

Prom 8 aims to develop a culture of resilience and perseverance for future cohorts.”

- Eartha Pond (Founder)
